MADDY McGEE, P.I. Updates

Hey folks! Peter here. I’ll keep this short.

If you haven’t noticed, we’ve been updating pages again.  But at the same time, we’ll be going for a somewhat lax update schedule, about a page every 2 weeks, give or take. Our lives are doing well but with other parts still high in priority. At the same time we missed this comic, and we realized we left some of you at a pretty dull cliffhanger some pages ago.

So we’re back. Mystery needs to be solved.

MADDY McGEE, P.I. Updates

Hey, folks! It’s been…a while.

Both Britt and I want to apologize for the long unannounced hiatus. It seems that life hit us pretty hard, now that we have full-time adult work. On the positive side, we’re both individually getting a steady source of income. But now, I feel like we’ve found the determination to get back into the swing of things and continue with some updates!

So. Hopefully, we can keep some form of consistency and bring you more story with Maddy and the gang. All we can do is try!

MADDY McGEE, P.I. Updates

Fancy Tuna Comics will be at ConBravo! (Hamilton, ON, Canada) from Friday, July 18th to Sunday, July 20th. (Artist Alley table #D04)

Case 20-001 is finally closed! Before we get to the next caper, we’ve got another Big Sleep Guestravaganza starting next week with three special guest-art submissions, followed by a short break until August. But before we do that, let me share some behind-the-scenes stuff about the next case!

“There’s A Good Reason These Tables Are Numbered Honey, You Just Haven’t Thought Of It Yet” by Panic! At The Disco (2005)

Now it’s time for the story to get a bit more flashy. Again, Britt is at the writing helm while I serve as “backseat writer” (and we’ll be swapping these seats from time to time in future chapters too, so be ready for that).

When Britt suggested this case title and initial concept, she was afraid that I wouldn’t like it. Fortunately for her, I liked A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out, so we had no major problems there. That said, in the back of my mind, I thought something was still missing for our inspiration playlist. Something with a bit more class and a bit less percussion.

Weeks later, I found out about the Vitamin String Quartet.

“There’s A Good Reason These Tables Are Numbered Honey” by Vitamin String Quartet (2007)

I linked Britt to this song as soon as I found it. We both agreed that this was the kind of tune we needed playing in our minds. The original song helped in giving us a base idea, but it was this cover that inspired the mood we wanted to create in the setting: simple, mysterious, and rich without being as busy. Less “theatre rock,” and more…”a small string section that Jet would insist on having at the show because they would do requests.”

…Jet’s possibly a Millennial, in case you couldn’t tell.

This chapter’s probably going to read a lot quicker than the previous ones—likely because it’ll be half the size as one of the previous ones—but I think you guys’ll have a blast reading it.

Oh! And of course, a happy 4th of July to our U.S. neighbours! We hope you’re all doing well!

MADDY McGEE, P.I. Updates

(Fanart by Alcina Wong)

Hey, folks!

We’re one or two pages away from the end of “Sometime Around Midnight (Part 2)”! In celebration, we were wondering if any of you would like to send us some Maddy-related guest art/comics that we can feature starting on MONDAY, JUNE 30, 2014.

If you would like to send us something, you can email it to peter[a] (remember to fix the [a] in there). We’ll set a deadline for FRIDAY, JUNE 27, 2014, to make things easy on all of you.

» End of one era, beginning of another…

No, this is not the story of how I’m leaving Maddy for other things. You’re not getting rid of me that easily. First off, Sometime Around Midnight is entering the home stretch and Peter and I are hoping it’ll be done at a time which is soon (I can’t tell you when we HOPE it’ll be done because Peter would probably murder me). We’re working out the logistics of getting that for sale on the site shortly afterwards, details will be forthcoming. Once SAM (as we fondly refer to the incredibly long title) is finished, we’ll be launching into the next chapter of Maddy, and we hope you’ll hang around to see what else we’ve got.

As a short spoiler, you get this synopsis of the next Maddy story, “There’s A Good Reason These Tables Are Numbered” (yeah I know it’s long but shut up I like it). Also, this synopsis contains potential (maybe?) spoilers for  SAM, so if you want zero spoilers, skim over this part.

First case down, now to number two. When Maddy and the gang are invited to a special event hosted by Doctor and Doctor Sun, it isn’t long before things go awry. The skills of the crew are demanded, and Maddy finds herself trapped in a room with her two best friends, innocent civilians, a neurotic insurance agent, a mad scientist, another cyborg, and the criminal.

And with all that news comes some more news. This is more specifically me-news and not Maddy-news and kind of Peter-news. I am having one of my short stories developed into a short film, titled “Subject One”. While I’ve had limited involvement in the filming/production, I have been around the set, met the actors, the director, and the producers, so I’m incredibly excited about the whole project. More details will be forthcoming, but for some up-to-date news, you can check out the facebook page here:

And the short story itself? While I’ve been in a few talks with publishers it hasn’t really panned out, so I’ve had a chat with Peter and I’ll be releasing the story as a self-published work, hopefully around the end of this month, or beginning of next month (have you noticed I suck at time-lines?). Peter will once again be collaborating with me, as he’s agreed to do the cover/jacket for the book, so your favourite team (we’d better be your favourite team) will be back in action and ready to party!

We’ll do a preview of the jacket and a summary of the story in the not-so-distant-future (I should really just look at a calendar) so that anyone interested can have a look!

In summary, “Subject One” is a sci-fi psychological thriller that tells the tale of a broken war hero sent to Mars to repair her reputation. It’s a horror story, so stuff doesn’t go very well.

Stick around guys, gals, and everyone in between, because we’ve got some wild rides ahead!

All my love,
