Peter and I are in the midst of the boring part of production (at least for me, because it’s a matter of waiting of him to finish). So there’s not much to report without giving away Volume 2. There is a new project we’re working on and we’re going through some test designs for it. Here are a few sketches of what that’ll look like. Enjoy!
Today’s going to be a short update of sorts, letting everyone know what we’ve been doing and what we’re up to. On Saturday Sept. 14 Peer and I attended the Toronto Indie Arts Market. From all evidence the event promised to be full of opportunities for small press groups like ours. The fee was small and it was only a single day. Unfortunately, wasn’t the small press event we hoped it would be. Peter and I found ourselves struggling to garner an audience and the crowd wasn’t looking for new independent graphic books like we offered, in fact there were only 3 other tables that offered small press books and it was painfully obvious that the audience was looking for something else. Don’t get me wrong, it was an experience, but we were looking for opportunity, not a learning experience. For now, Peter and I are exploring more well known shows and conventions for the coming tour.
That being said, we appreciate the hard work of the staff of the Gladstone Hotel, the organizer Cheryl and her husband, Winston for trying to accommodate us.
As for what we’re doing; We have a lot ahead of us. As some of you already know, Peter and I are in the throws of full production, laying out and produce the second volume page for page. that should take a few months to finish up. In the meantime, we’re looking for a new publisher/printer. One that can offer more than what we have now for the remaining run of the first volume and following volumes, and we’re starting a new project. This will be a hybrid project where each page can be found on the site and will be a printed book when a full online run is complete. The project promises to be something VERY different from everything else here at Fancy Tuna and we hope it adds some breadth to the label.
Hope this finds everyone well and come back next week for another update.
Hey folks! Lucky and I (and possibly even Britt) will be at ConBravo! 2013 this weekend at the Hamilton Convention Centre (Hamilton, ON), from July 26th-28th!
