The other day I was looking over some script notes on my iPhone while on my morning commute to work. That’s when it struck me that creators have so many new outlets for content with new technology. So, this begs the question: Why make Perfume and Primer Caps a print exclusive? After all, Peter’s Maddy McGee series is a web comic, and other great new titles such as The Becka’s Cadaverific is a heavily web distributed title. I think the word to use here is “tribute.” PPC is a tribute to a lot of wonderful action movies we all grew up with. It’s a tribute to the Robocops, the Lethal Weapons and Die Hards of a generation passed. We all reveled in the joy of watching our favorite anti-hero strap a bomb on Eastern European terrorists (who for some reason spoke with Oxford accents) or fire the last lucky bullet to hit a one in a million shot.
As my last semester in graphic design is destroying my personal and comic-making time, I thought I’d take this moment to post up a set of process images for how I tend to do my artwork. The example above is an illustration of Annie doing what she does best—not break under pressure.
While the comic is being illustrated in Manga Studio, most of my colour work tends to be in Photoshop. Once you learn using PS for so long, it’s hard to stay away from it.
I’ve got a few more weeks until the current brunt of my school work is done. So until that time arrives, I’m hoping to get at least another page done for the preview!
Um, okay.. So, that doesn’t really work for me.
I would, however, like to take this opportunity to welcome and thank all of you who have come to visit the site. Here you will find weekly panel, character, blog and even the odd sketch updates from Peter and myself (Yes, I may even show you some of my terrible concept sketches) of the production of Perfume and Primer Caps. As we come closer to finish the first adventure of Annie, Lizzie, Boom Boom and Lex, you will all have a front row seat to this grand adventure. For those of you scratching your heads, wondering where the next page to the preview chapter is, it’s on its way. As many of you realize, creating a full length action adventure comic novel is labor intensive and time consuming. Rest assured, the script to volume one is complete and well into illustrative production. As Peter toils away with ink, paint and paper…er… I mean tablet, light pen and software, I have began writing the script to volume two. Please continue to visit the site and show your support, making our endeavors worthwhile and fun for both us and you, the audience. Feel free to leave us comments, or email me at email@example.com to let us know what you think and tell us how we’re doing.
See you in the funnies!
