Like a lot of other visual artists and storytellers, I tend to make my work while listening to music; Britt also agrees with the idea of music being a big creative influencer. In fact, the idea of Maddy McGee, P.I. came to me while listening to David Bowie’s Hunky Dory on loop for weeks. While listening to it, I latched onto this theme or idea of children going through the times and growing up to being something significant. From there, I just fused that theme with my love of the noir genre and my love of character-building. Britt understood my concept as quick as lightning, so the transition of adding her to the comic wasn’t difficult.

If you haven’t been able to tell, one of my favorite things to do is create characters.
When I write fiction, I’m more in-zone when I’m writing character fiction. I’m fascinated with people in general and how dialogue works, but I’m also fascinated with how people expect other people to talk. Archetypes and stereotypes are just so interesting in my mind, and I constantly think about those things whenever I write.
If any of you folks have any questions about how I or Britt approach our writing, or if you have any questions in general, you can ask us via email or Tumblr! We’ve also got those Twitters and Facebooks and stuff too in the sidebar, so there’s always a way to pick at our brains with your concerns.
